Mr Yohei Sasakawa, Chairman of the Nippon Foundation and the first Chair of the steering committee of the Sasakawa Pacific Island Nations Fund, made a speech at Japan-US alliance meeting held in Washinton DC this September.
He suggested that a possibility for a new direction in the Japan-US alliance is "non-military + Pacific Islands", and he referred to Dr Campbell's current visit to Pacific Islands.
Hon. Daniel Inouye and Hon, Jim Webb also attended.
