In December 1970 Sir Michael Somare visited Japan with an invitation from the late Ryoichi Sasakawa. Mr Sasakawa arranged a meeting with the Prime Minister Eisaku
Sato. Sato is the granduncle of the current Prime Minister Abe, who is going to visit PNG next month. Mr Sasakawa was the only person in the world who supported Sir Somare's election in 1972.
