10月末、沖縄で「島と海」のシンポジウムが開催される予定である。
主催者からの協力要請を受け、色々勉強させていただいている。
今日は朝からスカイプでハワイの専門家とブレストした。
当方が上げた質問は下記の通り。ハワイからは興味深い回答や意見が聞けた。

I have suggested the following items just as brainstorming.
1. More than 50% of US EEZ is located in the Pacific Ocean. This is not known by many people, even by US citizens.
2. How has the US managed the Pacific Ocean under the Obama administration? (eg. UNCLOS, "Ocean Policy")
3. How can we can get a picture of the complexities of US involvement in the Pacific ocean -
- ex. US territories plus FAS,
- many actors and stake holders such as government agencies (NOAA, USCG, PACOM, ...) NGOs(PEW, TNC ..)
4. Future relationship and/or cooperation between Okinawa and Hawaii (US), Ryukyus Uni and UH on this issue.
Last but not least, the US military especially PACOM has an important role for Pacific Ocean security in a broad sense, not only traditional security but also climate change, IUU and so on. Plus originally the navy was a multi-talented group such as James Cook, Louis Antoine de Bougainville, and Jules Sébastien César Dumont d'Urville．How we can cope with them or not?
