I don't know of many examples of Australian scholars writing well about Japan, but this is a terrible piece of writing. Japan's Pacific aid in 2000 was $239,122.50 USD, but that is impossible. It is in the hundreds of millions of dollars each year, which is only 1-2% of total ODA. It is also difficult to put a number on it because of the multi and bi-lateral nature of it.
And finally, it is said that the island summit has been a low level meeting until now. This is an insult not only to Japan but also to the Pacific island countries. I strongly protest against this.

そして最後に島サミットは今までlow level meetingだったとある。これは日本だけでなく太平洋島嶼国に対する侮辱である。強く抗議する。
二国間だけで、1999年は123ミリオンドル、2000年は111ミリオンドル 贈与だけ。
その後の数字も100億円を前後。だいたい3年で500億円なのである。
