2012 Forum Security Committee meeting

The 2012 Forum Regional Security Committee (FRSC) Meeting will be held at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat Headquarters in Suva, Fiji from 6 - 7 June.
The FRSC will be chaired by the Republic of Marshall Islands, H.E. Ms Amaitlin Kabua, Ambassador to Fiji, and will be attended by senior government officials from Forum member countries. Representatives from regional law enforcement and security agencies will also attend the meeting.
In the context of the evolving global security environment, the FRSC will discuss a wide range of issues relating to and impacting regional security. This will include trans-border issues such as transnational organised crime, border management, and counter-terrorism; national and regional law enforcement challenges; as well as human security, human rights, and governance issues. There will also be discussion around the broad political and security environment in the region.
The FRSC meeting is preceded by the Second Conflict Prevention Workshop and a meeting of the Regional Working Group on Counter-Terrorism on 4 and 5 June respectively at the Forum Secretariat.
The Conflict Prevention Workshop was jointly organised by the Forum Secretariat and the Suva-based UNDP Pacific Centre and was attended by Forum officials and representatives from civil society. The theme for the Workshop was “Exploring Pacific Government and Civil Society Roles for Advancing Human Security in the Pacific" in recognition of the emerging role and contribution of civil society to peace and security in the region.
The Regional Working Group on Counter-Terrorism comprises senior Forum officials and was co-chaired by the Forum Secretariat and New Zealand. The Working Group discussed emerging trends and issues in Counter-Terrorism, and the coordination of technical assistance to support anti-terrorism activities and Members’ international counter-terrorism obligations.
