パラオの中国人問題は一向に解決されないどころか、悪化の一途を辿っている様子である。
下記のパラオ地元紙に掲載されたコメントはショックだった。

”PALAUANS STAY OUT AND KEEP OUT ” は 「パラオ人は手を出すな、出て行け」位の意味であろうか。
スペイン、ドイツ、日本、アメリカに占拠されたパラオは、今自ら国交のない中国人を招き、99年の土地のリースを許し、自由にビジネスをさせている。他方、数ヶ月前アンガウル州の代表団が中国を訪ねようとした際、香港で追い返されてしまった。パラオ人の屈辱はこれに留まらない。。
１．中国人はパラオの文化を尊重しない。ビジネスにパラオ人を関わらせない。
２．パラオ人お断りの中国人経営のレストランやパラオ人の客は先払い、というようなレストランがある。
３．地元の観光ボート経営者は中国人との競争に勝てず破産する人もいる。National Development Bank of Palau: NDBPはパラオ人のためなのにパラオ人の観光業を支援できなくしている。
４．パラオ人に機会を与えない状況は、まさにパラオ人のモラトリアム（バル）を宣言しているに等しい。即ちパラオ人自らパラオの土地から追い出している事に等しい。
簡単にまとめましたが、原文は叫びに近い悲愴感があります。

We did not invite the Spaniards, Germans, Japanese, and the Americans to occupy Palau but we invited the Chinese. Our government granted permits for Chinese airlines to carry plane loads of Chinese to Palau, more importantly, allow them to do business in Palau. Even thought we say we are friends and have diplomatic ties with Taiwan, Mainland Chinese continue to flood Palau like giant waves sweeping throughout the entire island. It appears as if they are determined to fill and crowd in Palau with as many Chinese as possible. Our government has allowed the unthinkable to take place. Palau has opened its doors to Chinese to freely travel in and lease lands, especially for 99 years, to establish their businesses but Palauans cannot freely travel to China. A good example is a delegation of Angaur state leaders and officials few months ago was denied entry into China and made to turn back to Palau from Hong Kong. But that insult does not stop there.
Chinese telling Palauans to stay out of their business establishments or treating Palauans like unworthy customers is increasingly happening on our own land. It has become obvious that Chinese have no sense or desire to integrate or assimilate (oldak malechub e te suub) our culture in what they do in Palau. Most, if not all of all, of their business establishments hire no Palauans at all. And the décor (besiich malechub e ng lechukl) on their business establishments reflects none of the local cultural images or names. If there was any time in our post war history that we felt oppressed and looked down upon as people, the Chinese are doing it whether they know it or not. This is not good either way.
In recent months, a former delegate was not allowed to eat breakfast with his guests staying at one of the hotels in Madalaii. He was told that they serve no local customers. As a result, he ended up moving his guests to another hotel. Also more recent incident, an incumbent delegate and his children were told that they would have to pay for their food first before the Chinese restaurant in Downtown Koror start cooking their order. These are the strongest among Palauan people being mistreated and pushed like nobodies in our own land. What about most of us common people? So the real question is what are we going to do with this situation or are we going to wait until it reaches boiling point and explodes?
An incumbent senator, who is a good friend, asked that I raise public awareness on Palauan boat owners that are losing out in the water transportation business because Chinese tour operators are now bringing in their own boats. These Palauan boat owners are now not able to compete or participate in the tourism industry to the point some of them are now unable to pay their NDBP loans. Some have bankrupted. And the irony of this reality, NDBP according to words going around is no longer granting loans for boat service endeavors making it next to impossible for Palauans to be in water services business. NDBP is an arm of the government supposed to help Palauans be part of the economic developments and opportunities taking place in Palau, especially in the tourism industry.
This is actually admitting that Palauans have no more chance. We might as well declare a moratorium (bul) on Palauans to stay out of tourism industry. These OEK members and boat owners in the water transport business are some of strong willed Palauans. So if they are being chased out by the Chinese and now the government through NDBP is removing its support, we can fairly say that Palauans have been push out of what is rightfully theirs and future of Belau or Palauans as master of their destiny is once out of our hands.
