世界広しといえどもトランプ大統領のパリ協定離脱スピーチを聞いてピーナッツ（端金）の部分が引っかかりそのルーツを調べ上げたのは私だけであろう。
日本広しといえども豪州モリソン首相のスピーチとインタビュー１時間を聞いてモリソン首相の感極まった安倍賛歌に心動かされ、咄嗟にこれは谷口さんに知らせんと、と連絡したのは私だけだった。
先日、中国専門家と話した。
「豪州の仮想敵国はどこですか？」
「日本ですよ。」
「え！ウッソー」
本当です。豪州は親日とは言い切れないほど根深い反日感情がある。それは日露戦争まで遡る。第一次戦争で緊張は高まり（例の人種差別撤廃の件）、第二次世界大戦で頂点に達する。
太平洋島嶼国は豪州の縄張りだ。少なくとも彼らはそう思っている。赤道以北のミクロネシアは米国の縄張りと思って2008年ミクロネシア海上保安事業を立ち上げたがこれに強い留保（リザベーションを海保が「予約」と報告書に書いて、あ、この事業国交相に任せたら大変な事になると。で大変なことになりました。）を示したのは豪州、王立海軍であった。
数え出せばきりがない豪州の反日感情。それを30年も見てきた当方にとってあのモリソン首相の芝居でもやらせでもない、感極まったダーウィンでの安倍総理との”モメント”を語る姿は、１週間経った今でも感動している。お伝えした谷口さんも感動されていた。安倍チームはあらゆる努力をして日豪関係改善を仕掛けてきたのが手に取るように、私には経験者としてわかる。
2014年、アボット政権下で安倍総理の豪州訪問を成功させたのは、実は私なのである。キャンベラで豪州外務省の職員10人位に囲まれ「安倍総理の来訪に向け何か案はないか？」と相談された。「今年は日豪海洋協力１００周年ですよ」と。私を囲んだ豪州外務相職員は誰も知らなかったのだ。
平間洋一先生の英文資料を後で送った。念のため豪州防衛大臣の政策アドバイザーをしている知人にも送っておいた。どこの国も外務省と防衛省は仲が悪い。結果はご存知の通り安倍総理は大歓迎を受け、日本帝国海軍が豪州NZの艦船をエスコートしたアルバニーのある西オーストラリアを訪問。その後、海上自衛隊の「きりさめ」がアルバニーの記念式典に招かれた。

Final question, PM, you've travelled quite a lot as Prime Minister.. You've visited a lot of countries... What..what has been the most memorable moment on the international stage you've had as PM? Would there be one moment that sticks out?

Yeah. And it happened in Australia. Uh.. standing in the silence beside the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe as we laid a wreath in Darwin. It was (首を振りながら） inter-generational. It was beyond （言葉を探しつつ）current events. It was a moment of.. （こみ上げるもの感じつつ）it's a very emotional thing. It was a moment of generational healing, and an act of grace from a great leader, for which I will be forever grateful to him for. [sic]
