八重山諸島で90年代から私が展開してきた「やしの実大学」を与那国で再開します。
テーマは、私が2017年に安倍総理に教える機会があった「オーストロネシア語族」の話です。
安倍総理は2018年5月の第８回島サミットと9月の国連総会演説でもオーストロネシア語族の話をしています。ただし、周りのブレーン（谷口さん辺りか？）の理解が間違っており、太平洋島嶼国がオーストロネシア語族の起源と勘違い。起源は台湾です。
その台湾と与那国の考古学の話です。

I am resuming in Yonaguni the Yashinomi College that I have been running since the 1990s in the Yaeyama Islands.
The theme is the Austronesian language group, which I had the opportunity to teach to Prime Minister Abe in 2017.
Prime Minister Abe also talked about the Austronesian language group at the 8th Island Leaders Summit in May 2018 and in his speech to the UN General Assembly in September 2018. However, the brains around him (around Mr Taniguchi?) ) have a wrong understanding of the Austronesian language group, and mistakenly think that the Pacific Island countries are the origin of the Austronesian language group. The origin is Taiwan.
It is about the archaeology of that Taiwan and Yonaguni.

オーストロネシア語族とは？
オーストロネシア語族とは何者か？台湾の原住民のことであり、４千年前に台湾を起点に西はマダガスカル、東はイースター島まで拡散した民族グループです。私はインド太平洋構想を掲げた今は亡き安倍晋三総理にオーストロネシア語族の存在を教える機会がありました。安倍総理は2018年第８回島サミット（福島）のスピーチにこのオーストロネシア語族と共に拡散したバナナが東アフリカから太平洋の島々にもあることを紹介しました。
与那国での講演会では二人の考古学者を台湾と豪州からお呼びし、オーストロネシア語族の最新の学術研究を伺いながら、一気に時間軸を数千年前に戻し、与那国周辺の海洋世界を探索したいと思います。講師にはオーストロネシア語族の東南アジア拡散研究世界的権威である洪曉純 （シャオチュン・フン）博士（台湾出身、オーストラリア国立大学上席研究員）。西太平洋に広がるラピタ土器研究世界的権威でエリザベス女王よりロゴフ勲章（2014）、オーストラリア勲章（2021）の２つの勲章を受賞したグレン・サマーヘイズ教授をお招きしました。内容は高校生でもわかるようにとお願いしてあります。時間が許せば現在パラオ国家安全保障局アドバイザーの職にある私から同国の歴史や文化的価値を重視した「国家安全保障戦略2022」もご紹介します。
やしの実大学とは
八重山諸島の民間グループが「島で島を語る」をテーマに1998から2004年にかけて八重山の各島で「やしの実大学」を開催。沖縄と太平洋島嶼国に軸足を置いて、考古学から海洋問題、島嶼経済まで島が抱えるさまざまな問題を議論してきました。その後2006から2008年の３年間、琉球大学大城肇元学長の主導で「沖縄太平洋教育ネットワーク・イニシアチブ」に展開し八重山諸島の若者がハワイを訪問する機会もありました。
「島で島を語る」というコンセプトでこの事業を石垣のジャーナリストに提案したのは私です。私は1988年頃から太平洋島嶼国に関わり、太平洋島嶼国ジャーナリスト事業も企画。しかし日本本土取材では記事にならず、新聞社が２社ある八重山諸島を知り訪ねたのです。しかし島の県内外のメディアから「協力しない」と即決即答。「こんな島二度と来るものか」と思いながら、翌朝石垣空港に向かったところ、当時RBC通信員の故友寄英正氏と八重山毎日新聞編集長だった上地氏が空港にいました。
「八重山のことだから俺たちが協力するから！」との答え。やしの実大学が開催されたのです。
もう30年前のことです。
今回「八重山アドバイザリーグループ」として応援してくれる八重山毎日新聞前編集長・上地義男氏、八重山観光フェリー相談役・池間義則氏、浦崎美紀子氏、宮良久氏は当時のメンバーです。
日本最西端ではなくインド太平洋の中心である与那国において、国家も国境もない数千年前のオーストロネシア語族の海洋世界を学び、国連海洋法条約で人類共同財産と認識された海洋秩序をみなさんと共に考えます。

Invitation for the Coconuts College in Yonaguni

With the Taiwan contingency and missile deployment, the Yaeyama Islands and Sakishima Islands are bustling with activity, and on April 29, we will learn about the Austronesian-speaking peoples, a seafaring people thousands of years old, in Yonaguni, right next to Taiwan, from the perspective of archaeology. We look forward to your participation.
What is the Austronesian language family?
Who are the Austronesian-speaking people? They are the aborigines of Taiwan, an ethnic group that originated in Taiwan 4,000 years ago and spread west to Madagascar and east to Easter Island. I had the opportunity to teach the existence of Austronesian-speaking peoples to the late Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who had an Indo-Pacific vision. Prime Minister Abe introduced the bananas that spread with this Austronesian-speaking group from East Africa to the islands of the Pacific in his speech at the 8th Island Summit in Fukushima, Japan in 2018.
At the lecture in Yonaguni, we invited two world-class archaeologists from Taiwan and Australia, and while listening to their latest academic research on Austronesian languages, we would like to turn back the time axis several thousand years at once and explore the marine world around Yonaguni. The lecturer will be Dr. Hsiao Chun Hung (from Taiwan, Senior Research Fellow at the Australian National University), a world authority on the study of the spread of Austronesian languages in Southeast Asia. Professor Glenn Summerhays, a world authority on Lapita pottery in the Western Pacific and recipient of two orders from Queen Elizabeth II, the Rogoff Medal (2014) and the Order of Australia (2021). We have asked that the content be understandable to high school students. If time permits, I will also introduce the National Security Strategy 2022, which emphasizes the country's history and cultural values, as I am currently an advisor to the Palau National Security Office.
What is Coconuts College?
A private group in the Yaeyama Islands held "Coconuts College" in each of the Yaeyama islands from 1998 to 2004 under the theme of "Talking about Islands on Islands. With Okinawa and the Pacific Islands as the axis, they discussed various issues facing the islands, ranging from archaeology to maritime issues and island economics. Later, for three years from 2006 to 2008, under the leadership of former Ryukyu University President Hajime Oshiro, the "Okinawa Pacific Education Network Initiative" was expanded to include opportunities for young people from the Yaeyama Islands to visit Hawaii.
I was the one who proposed this project to a journalist in Ishigaki, based on the concept of "talking about islands on islands". I have been involved in Pacific Island countries since around 1988, and also planned the Pacific Island Journalist Project. However, there were no articles in the coverage on the Japanese mainland, so I learned about and visited the Yaeyama Islands, where two newspaper companies are based. However, the media both inside and outside of the island prefecture immediately replied, "We will not cooperate with you". The next morning I went to Ishigaki Airport, thinking, "I will never come to this island again". I found the late Eisho Tomoyose, then a correspondent for RBC, and Uechi, then editor-in-chief of the Yaeyama Mainichi Shimbun, at the airport.
"We will cooperate with you because it is Yaeyama's business!"
It was 30 years ago.
Mr. Yoshio Uechi, former editor-in-chief of Yaeyama Mainichi Newspaper, Mr. Yoshinori Ikema, advisor of Yaeyama Tourist Ferry, Ms. Mikiko Urasaki, and Mr. Hisashi Miyara, who are supporting us this time as "Yaeyama Advisory Group" are members from those days.
In Yonaguni, which is not the westernmost tip of Japan but the center of the Indo-Pacific Ocean, we will learn about the Austronesian-speaking maritime world thousands of years ago, when there were no nations or national borders, and think together with you about the maritime order, which is the Common Heritage of Humankind as UNCLOS defined.
