インド太平洋研究会はこの秋、ソロモン諸島マライタ州ダニエル・スイダニ前知事を日本にお迎えすることになりました。
2019年にソロモン諸島が突然独立以来関係を維持してきた台湾から中国に外交関係を変更。日本国内は相変わらず80年前の「ガダルカナルの戦い」しか関心がありません。そこでインド太平洋研究会の中にメラネシア研究部会を設け情報収集発信をしてきました。防衛省のインド太平洋派遣にもこの研究会は貢献しています。
スイダニ氏の他に政策アドバイザー、セルサス・タリフィル氏も同行されます。日本の文化・歴史を知っていただき、友好関係を深めていただきたいと考えています。お二人のお話を聞く機会も設けたいと思います。
なお、インド太平洋研究会は私が2017−2018年、安倍政権のインド太平洋戦略・ダイヤモンドセキュリティ構想に「太平洋島嶼国」「海洋安全保障」「オーストロネシア語族の拡散」という概念を提言し取り上げられたことを契機に2018年に立ち上げました。

The Indo-Pacific Studies Group is pleased to welcome former Premier of Malaita, Solomon Islands, Hon. Daniel Suidani, to Japan this autumn.
In 2019, Solomon Islands suddenly changed its diplomatic relations from Taiwan to China, with which it has maintained relations since independence. Within Japan, as ever, the only interest is in the Battle of Guadalcanal 80 years ago. Therefore, a Melanesian Studies Group was established within the Indo-Pacific Studies Group to collect and disseminate information. The study group has also contributed to the deployment of the Ministry of Defence to the Indo-Pacific.
In addition to Mr Suidani, Mr Celsus Talifilu, Policy Advisor, will also be accompanying in this visit. We hope that the guests will learn about Japanese culture and history and deepen our friendship. We would also like to give an opportunity to listen to their talks.
Please note that the Indo-Pacific Studies Group was launched in 2018 after I proposed and featured the concepts of 'Pacific island countries', 'maritime security' and Austronesian language expansion' in the Indo-Pacific Strategy and Diamond Security Initiative of the Abe administration.
