Japan hands over new modern airport facility to SI – Solomon Star News

80 years after that day, the 5 billion yen Honiara Airport was completed.

In July 1942, the Japanese military built an airstrip at Honiara on the island of Guadalcanal to serve as a base, but it was occupied by U.S. forces one month later on August 7.

Eighty years have passed since then. The Honiara Airport was renovated to modernize it at a cost of about 5 billion yen.

The United Kingdom, the former sovereign nation of the Solomon Islands, the United States, which had expelled the Japanese, and Australia and New Zealand, which had taken over from the British, were largely ignored in the development of the Solomon Islands.

Eighty years later, China's Huawei is finally planning to link the remote islands, home to nearly 100 ethnic groups, via wireless communications, and China is building a magnificent venue for the 2023 Pacific Games.

What did the U.S. military and the Allied Forces protect in World War II? Were they only trying to protect their own interests and not concerned about the welfare, safety, health, and education of the people of the Solomon Islands?

Actually, the same is true of Micronesia, which was a Japanese mandate territory. The U.S. territories of Saipan and Guam have "Liberation Day," but Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, and the Marshall Islands do not. No one has ever asked the U.S. to liberate them from Japan, and the U.S. has destroyed the infrastructure built by the Japanese and Micronesian people and left it untouched.

Not only that. The US dropped a nuclear bomb on the innocent Marshall Islands.

We were talking about the airport in the Solomon Islands.

The purpose of the last war was supposedly to liberate Asia Pacific, but the government and military of the time waged a war of aggression without really knowing what liberation meant. In the 80 years since the war, human rights, development, and racial issues have been discussed at length. It is time to think first of all about the security of the people of the islands, that is, their peace and development, and not about the security of Japan, the U.S., or Australia.
