コロナで世界中がロックダウンする先頭を切ったのがパヌエロ大統領だった。島嶼国の実態を知らない、有本香氏と上念司氏がニュース番組でこの判断を批判しているのを見て、私は即座に反論した。

先日リークされた大統領の手紙を読むとそれは英断以上の行動だったのだ。ロックダウンをするなと中国の攻勢がすごかった事が書かれている。

不思議なのは日本の保守やメディアが一才関心を示さないことだ。台湾有事に直結する問題である。ミクロネシア連邦は、チュック、ポナペ、コスラエ、ヤップの４州から形成され東西に広大なEEZを形成している。ここが中国に抑えられれば、グアム、ハワイ、沖縄、台湾は挟み撃ちである。軍事的地政学上の重要な場所なのである。
だから米国は日本から奪い取ったのだ。しかし戦後70年、米国のミクロネシア地域への支援は遅きに失した感があるし、いまだに明確ではない。
かつて日本の領土であり、両国の関係は戦後も深まるばかり。日本がパヌエロ大統領の決断を支援せずにどうする。
I have a little acquaintance with President Panuelo of the Federated States of Micronesia.
It was President Panuelo who spearheaded the world-wide lockdown on COVID. When I saw Kaoru Arimoto and Jyonen Tsukasa who were not familiar with the reality of the island nations, criticizing this decision on a news program, I immediately responded.
Furthermore, I introduced President Panuero's wise decision in the book "The Era of After Corona as Seen from Emerging Countries: The World Spreading Between the U.S.-China Conflict," (Tokyo University Press) edited by Makoto Kawashima and Satoshi Ikeuchi.
Reading the recently leaked letter from the president, it was more than a wise decision. It states that the Chinese offensive was so great that a lockdown was difficult to implement.

What is strange is that Japanese conservatives and media have not shown the slightest interest. This is an issue that is directly related to the Taiwan crisis. The Federated States of Micronesia consists of the four states of Chuuk, Ponape, Kosrae, and Yap, forming a vast EEZ that extends east to west. If China were to hold this area, Guam, Hawaii, Okinawa, and Taiwan would be caught in a pincer attack. It is an important place in military geopolitics.
That is why the U.S. took it away from Japan. However, 70 years after the war, U.S. support for the Micronesian region seems to have come too late and is still not clear.
It was once Japan's territory, and relations between the two countries have only deepened since the war. What if Japan does not support President Panuelo's decision?
